Introduction

The advancement of wearable technologies and smart healthcare systems has significantly increased the demand for intelligent and flexible electronic textiles (e-textiles). E-textiles integrate flexible electronics, smart sensors, communication technologies, and artificial intelligence within textile structures to create wearable systems capable of sensing, processing, and transmitting data in real time. Recent developments in heterogeneous integration and edge AI have enabled wearable devices to become more energy-efficient, lightweight, adaptive, and user-friendly. This book, Heterogeneous Integration in E-Textiles: Flexible Electronics and Edge AI for Wearable Intelligence, aims to explore the latest innovations, methodologies, and applications in smart textile technologies. It focuses on the integration of flexible electronics and embedded AI systems that support intelligent decision-making directly on wearable platforms. The book will cover both theoretical foundations and practical applications in healthcare, sports, smart fashion, defense, rehabilitation, and industrial monitoring. It will also discuss emerging challenges related to power management, durability, scalability, data security, and commercialization of wearable intelligence systems.

Objective

The primary objective of this book is to provide a comprehensive understanding of heterogeneous integration techniques used in e-textiles and wearable intelligence systems. The book intends to bridge the gap between textile engineering, electronics, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and IoT technologies. The book aims to: Present recent advancements in flexible and stretchable electronics for wearable applications. Explore the integration of sensors, communication modules, and AI-driven systems into textile platforms. Examine the role of edge AI and TinyML in enabling real-time analytics and intelligent wearable solutions. Discuss smart healthcare monitoring, activity recognition, and human-machine interaction through e-textiles. Address challenges related to energy efficiency, durability, privacy, reliability, and sustainability in wearable systems. Highlight future research directions and commercialization opportunities in smart textile ecosystems. This book will contribute to ongoing research and innovation by providing interdisciplinary insights into next-generation wearable technologies.

Target Audience

This book is designed for researchers, academicians, engineers, industry professionals, and postgraduate students working in the fields of wearable technologies, flexible electronics, artificial intelligence, IoT, biomedical engineering, textile engineering, and smart healthcare systems. It will also benefit technology developers, startups, and professionals involved in smart garments, digital healthcare solutions, fitness technologies, and intelligent wearable product development. The book will serve as both a research reference and a practical guide for individuals interested in advanced wearable intelligence systems and smart textile applications.
