Introduction

Coastal areas are among the territories most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Rising sea levels, coastal erosion, extreme weather events, flooding, salinization of water resources, and increasing pressure on infrastructure are weakening coastal ecosystems and the associated economic and social activities. At the same time, population growth, rapid urbanization, and the increase in industrial and tourism activities are exacerbating the challenges related to the sustainable management of water resources, coastal infrastructure, and solid and liquid waste. These challenges require innovative approaches that integrate climate resilience, environmental governance, smart technologies, and sustainable development strategies. In this context, this edited volume aims to analyze the multidimensional impacts of climate change on coastal infrastructure, water systems, and waste management, while highlighting adaptation strategies, technological innovations, and public policies that promote the resilience of coastal areas. This book aims to bring together interdisciplinary contributions from the fields of engineering, the environment, urban planning, social sciences, territorial governance, and digital technologies in order to propose sustainable and integrated solutions for coastal areas. This book is intended for researchers, academics, doctoral students, engineers, urban planners, public decision-makers, NGOs, international organizations, and professionals involved in the sustainable management of coastal territories.

Objective

This book aims to: Study the impacts of climate change on coastal areas; Analyze the vulnerabilities of coastal infrastructure; Explore climate adaptation and resilience strategies; Examine the challenges related to the sustainable management of water resources; Study waste management systems in coastal environments; Promote smart technologies and innovative solutions; Identify best practices and public policies that promote the sustainability of coastal territories.
