Introduction

Psychotherapy has become a rigorous, evidence‑based discipline informed by neuroscience, behavioral science, and clinical outcome research. As mental‑health needs grow worldwide, clinicians are expected to understand a broad range of therapeutic modalities and apply them with fidelity, cultural humility, and diagnostic precision. Evidence‑Based Psychotherapy in Clinical Practice was created to support this work by offering an inclusive, clinically grounded, and academically robust overview of the major psychotherapeutic approaches used across diverse settings. This book will examine the theoretical foundations, mechanisms of change, and empirical support for widely used modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma‑Focused CBT, EMDR, and Solution‑Focused Brief Therapy. Each modality will be presented with its clinical applications, session structure, and evidence base, with attention to adaptation across cultures, populations, and care environments. A central theme of this text is aligning therapeutic modalities with specific diagnoses. Clinicians routinely encounter complex presentations including trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, personality pathology, substance use, and chronic medical comorbidities and effective care requires selecting interventions that best match each condition. Application of EBP ensures psychotherapy remains dynamic, individualized, and grounded in both scientific rigor and humanistic care. Throughout the book, readers learn to evaluate evidence, apply it to diverse clinical scenarios, and adapt interventions while maintaining fidelity to core therapeutic principles. This text aims to equip clinicians with the knowledge and skills to deliver psychotherapy that is effective, ethical, and globally responsive.

Objective

The primary objective of this book is to equip clinicians, educators, and students with a comprehensive understanding of evidence‑based psychotherapies and their diagnostic applications. The book will provide guidance on major therapeutic modalities and their theoretical foundations and demonstrate how each modality aligns with specific diagnoses and symptom clusters. Furthermore, the content will summarize empirical evidence supporting each approach, including randomized controlled trials and meta‑analyses. Evidence presented will offer practical guidance for integrating psychotherapy into diverse clinical settings and highlight culturally responsive, trauma‑informed, and patient‑centered adaptations to support clinical decision‑making through structured frameworks. Readers will gain the knowledge needed to deliver psychotherapy with confidence, accuracy, and adherence to best practices. This book will strengthen the global research landscape by synthesizing current evidence, highlighting gaps, and encouraging new scholarly inquiry. By bringing together diverse international perspectives, the book will expand understanding of how psychotherapies function across cultures, diagnoses, and clinical settings. It will advance research by identifying where evidence is strong, where it is limited, and where further study is needed particularly in culturally responsive care, diagnostic‑modality matching, telehealth delivery, and treatment outcomes in underrepresented populations. By integrating evidence‑based practice with global clinical experience, this book will serve as a foundation for future empirical work and inspire new research directions in psychotherapy worldwide.
