Introduction

Sustainable Futures in Education: Teaching and Learning Beyond Borders brings together voices from a wide range of education systems globally to explore how education can foster sustainable teaching and learning practices, enhance equity, and promote social transformation. The edited volume presents theoretical, empirical, and evidence-based perspectives on how diverse education systems across different cultural contexts are responding to rapid social, environmental and technological changes, and highlight how innovative teaching and learning practices across diverse and interdisciplinary education stages can promote sustainable futures in education. The publication argues that sustainability in education cannot be achieved through isolated, local educational reforms, policies, and practices. Instead, it requires shared visions, exchanged ideas, practices and experiences, and collaborative networks at different levels. Sharing good educational practices, innovative pedagogical approaches and evidence-based perspectives across borders can equip both learners and educators to navigate the complexities of an interconnected and constantly changing world. By bringing together a rich repertoire of educational voices across borders, the edited volume aspires to provide a timely and forward-looking resource for educators, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.

Objective

The publication seeks not only to equip educators and stakeholders with innovative pedagogical practices developed across borders, but also to encourage researchers, stakeholders, educators and pre-service teachers to move from small-scale to larger and more open scale practices. Therefore, the volume will: o Provide theoretical understanding of how to promote sustainability in education o Provide comparative insights across diverse educational contexts. o Enhance the evidence for effective implementation and good practices. o Present underrepresented voices, including students, teachers, and communities in regard to innovative teaching and learning across borders. o Inform future research focus on sustainable education and innovative teaching practices. o Bridge the distance between research, policy, and practice across diverse education systems.
