Introduction

Cognitive Cost of AI-Generated Content is an insightful look at how artificial intelligence is transforming human cognition in the digital age. With increased integration of AI-generated text, images, videos, and automation in education, communication, businesses, and other sectors, issues related to the negative effects of AI on human cognition have grown considerably. In Cognitive Cost of AI-Generated Content, I examine the various cognitive costs of overreliance on AI technologies and systems that include decreased critical thinking skills, poor memory retention, reduced creativity, short attention span, and passive consumption of information. In the book, I provide a balanced discussion on both the advantages and disadvantages of AI-generated content. Some of the topics discussed include how AI improves productivity, efficiency, and accessibility while posing ethical, educational, psychological, and societal challenges. Other topics addressed in the book include cognitive dependency, misinformation, deepfakes, digital trust, decision-making using AI, transformation of workplaces, and appropriate use of AI. This book targets a wide range of audiences that include students, researchers, educators, professionals, policymakers, and technology lovers. It helps the reader gain more awareness of the long-term impacts of AI on human cognition and the society in general.
