Introduction

The Future of Global Citizenship and Belonging in Education explores how education systems, institutions, and educators can foster inclusion, identity, human connection, and global engagement in an increasingly interconnected yet complex world. Shaped by migration, technological advancement, geopolitical instability, artificial intelligence, cultural diversity, and evolving notions of identity, educational environments are being challenged to rethink how learners experience belonging and participation within global societies. This edited volume brings together interdisciplinary perspectives from scholars, researchers, educators, policymakers, and practitioners to examine the future of global citizenship and belonging across educational contexts. The book will critically explore themes including international education, migration and displacement, cultural intelligence, artificial intelligence in education, mental health and wellbeing, inclusive pedagogy, digital learning communities, educational leadership, equity, and student identity formation. The publication aims to provide both theoretical and practical insights into how education can respond to contemporary global challenges while creating inclusive and human-centred learning environments. Through international perspectives and evidence-based contributions, the book will advance discussions on the future of education, belonging, and social cohesion in rapidly changing societies.

Objective

This publication seeks to contribute to emerging interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of global education, migration, identity, inclusion, wellbeing, and educational transformation. The book aims to: Advance interdisciplinary dialogue across education, migration studies, sociology, psychology, technology, and intercultural studies. Contribute to contemporary debates on global citizenship, identity, and belonging in educational contexts. Provide future-focused perspectives on inclusive education in an era of AI, globalization, and social disruption. Support evidence-based policy and practice related to equity, inclusion, and student wellbeing. Encourage international collaboration among scholars and practitioners. Offer practical frameworks and strategies for educators, institutions, and policymakers. The publication will serve as a valuable reference for research, teaching, policy development, and professional practice within higher education and related fields.
