Introduction

The convergence of artificial intelligence, sustainable tourism, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) frameworks represents one of the most pressing and underexplored intersections in contemporary management and hospitality research. This edited volume brings together conceptual, empirical, and applied contributions examining how AI-driven tools and ESG indicators can be systematically integrated into tourism planning, destination management, and sustainability assessment. Drawing on diverse geographic and sectoral contexts — including emerging destinations in Asia, Latin America, and Europe — the volume incorporates perspectives from academia, public policy, and industry practice.

Objective

This volume aims to: (1) examine the application of artificial intelligence and digital transformation in tourism and hospitality contexts; (2) advance the design, measurement, and operationalisation of sustainability indicators and ESG frameworks in tourism-dependent economies; and (3) explore the governance of sustainable development through community-based tourism, responsible management, and strategic planning. By bridging AI applications with ESG governance, the book fills a notable gap in existing literature and responds to growing institutional and market demands for transparent sustainability reporting in tourism.

Target Audience

The primary audience includes academic researchers and postgraduate students in tourism, hospitality, sustainability, business administration, and environmental management. Secondary audiences include tourism policymakers, destination management organisations (DMOs), ESG analysts, sustainability consultants, and hospitality professionals seeking evidence-based frameworks for responsible governance.
