Introduction

We invite educators, literacy leaders, instructional coaches, higher education faculty, consultants, researchers, and school administrators to contribute to a edited volume currently under development with IGI Global Scientific Publishing. This volume is designed to highlight practical, research-informed approaches that strengthen literacy instruction and improve outcomes for learners across diverse educational settings. In other words, what things are working in schools related to the science of reading. The goal of this book is to bridge research and practice by showcasing field-tested strategies, innovative instructional approaches, leadership practices, and systems that support effective literacy instruction. Rather than focusing solely on theory, each chapter should provide readers with practical ideas that can be immediately applied in classrooms, schools, districts, and educational organizations. You can also tell the story of the things that you have tried and why they are working or perhaps what you tried and what isn't working in relationship to the science of reading.

Objective

The primary objective of this volume is to bridge the gap between literacy research and classroom implementation by bringing together the expertise of practitioners and educational leaders from a variety of educational settings. Specifically, this book seeks to: Translate current literacy research into practical instructional and leadership strategies. Showcase successful classroom, school, and district literacy initiatives. Highlight evidence-based practices grounded in the Science of Reading and related literacy research. Provide educators with actionable tools, frameworks, and implementation strategies that can be immediately applied. Illustrate how effective literacy systems are designed, implemented, monitored, and sustained. Explore emerging topics—including technology, artificial intelligence, assessment, intervention, and leadership—that influence literacy instruction. Encourage collaboration among educators by sharing lessons learned, successes, and challenges from the field. Ultimately, this volume aims to become a practical professional resource that supports continuous improvement in literacy instruction while contributing to the growing body of practitioner scholarship.

Target Audience

This volume is intended for a broad audience of literacy professionals, including: Classroom teachers (PreK–12) Reading specialists and interventionists Literacy coaches Curriculum directors Building and district administrators Educational consultants Professional development providers University faculty and teacher educators Graduate students in literacy, curriculum, and educational leadership Educational service center personnel State education agency staff Because each chapter emphasizes practical application alongside research, the book will serve both practitioners seeking immediately usable strategies and scholars interested in implementation research and systems-level literacy improvement.
