Introduction

The rapid integration of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Grammarly into higher education is transforming language learning practices in unprecedented ways. In language classrooms, students increasingly collaborate with AI systems to produce, revise, and translate texts, raising complex ethical questions about authorship, academic integrity, cognitive engagement, and linguistic development. While AI-assisted learning offers opportunities for personalization and support, it also challenges traditional assumptions about originality, assessment, and the role of human agency in language acquisition. This volume seeks to critically examine the ethical dimensions of student–AI collaboration, with a particular focus on higher education language classrooms.
