Introduction

Tourism is a major global industry that drives economic growth and cultural exchange, but it also contributes to environmental degradation and social inequality. This creates an urgent need to rethink how tourism can grow sustainably without harming the resources it depends on. At the same time, artificial intelligence (AI) is offering new ways to solve complex challenges through data-driven insights and smart systems. In tourism, AI has the potential to improve efficiency and support sustainability. This book explores how AI, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable tourism can work together to create responsible and inclusive tourism models. It highlights both the opportunities; such as reducing environmental impact and supporting communities and the challenges, including ethical concerns and data privacy. Overall, the book provides practical guidance for building a more sustainable and impactful future for tourism.

Its main objective is to provide a practical framework for using artificial intelligence to create a more environmentally responsible and socially equitable tourism industry. It demonstrates how AI can be applied in real-world contexts to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and support better decision-making. By integrating AI with social entrepreneurship, the book highlights business models that generate both economic and social value, enabling startups and community initiatives to scale their impact. The book also contributes to research by offering an interdisciplinary perspective, addressing key gaps such as community-based applications, ethical concerns, challenges in developing regions, and greenwashing. Overall, it serves as both a practical guide and research contribution, providing tools and insights for driving sustainable innovation in tourism.
