Introduction

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into contemporary research practices is transforming how knowledge is produced, validated, and disseminated. From automated data analysis and generative writing tools to algorithmic decision-making systems, AI is reshaping epistemic processes across disciplines. While these technologies offer unprecedented opportunities for efficiency and innovation, they also raise profound ethical and epistemological concerns. This edited volume seeks to critically examine the implications of AI for research integrity, knowledge construction, authorship, and academic labor. It aims to bring together interdisciplinary perspectives that interrogate the promises and risks of AI, with particular attention to issues of bias, accountability, transparency, and the evolving nature of expertise.

Objective

The primary objective of this volume is to explore how AI technologies challenge traditional understandings of knowledge production and ethical responsibility in research. It will provide a platform for scholars to: • Critically assess the epistemic implications of AI in research methodologies • Examine ethical dilemmas associated with AI-assisted scholarship • Investigate the impact of AI on academic practices, authorship, and credibility • Propose frameworks for responsible and transparent AI use in research

Target Audience

This book is intended for: • Researchers and academics across disciplines • Graduate students and early-career scholars • Research ethics committees and policy-makers • Professionals working in AI, data science, and digital scholarship

Recommended Topics

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: • AI and the transformation of knowledge production • Epistemic authority and trust in AI-generated content • Ethical implications of generative AI in academic writing • Bias, fairness, and algorithmic accountability in research tools • AI and research integrity (plagiarism, fabrication, hallucination) • Human–AI collaboration in scholarly work • The future of peer review in the age of AI • Transparency and explainability in AI-assisted research • Data ethics and AI-driven methodologies • Intellectual property and authorship in AI-generated outputs • The role of AI in qualitative and quantitative research • AI literacy and methodological training for researchers • Power, inequality, and global disparities in access to AI tools • Regulatory and institutional responses to AI in academia
