Introduction

Global changes in the labor market have taken place in recent years. Not only technological changes and accelerated digitalization but also the pandemic (Covid 19) followed by the war in Ukraine caused transformations in the labor market. Immigrants arrived in Western countries and have affected the entrepreneurial ecosystem in a host country as they launched their business. Since many immigrants encounter considerable challenges entering the labor market in the host country, the business path appears to be an effective solution for employment.
Moreover, immigrant entrepreneurs play an important role in bridging their homeland and host countries stimulating global business connections. Furthermore, digital technologies have reshaped global trade and regional business as e-commerce has advanced. Increasing adoption of automation technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, etc. boosts entrepreneurship as more and more technological start-ups and enterprises are established in any country.
Additionally, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) encourage entrepreneurship. Sustainable development requires sustainable solutions for environmental and social challenges the world is facing. For this reason, sustainable entrepreneurs emerged as a response to the problems, which have been created by traditional business behavior.
Immigrant entrepreneurship can contribute to SDGs in terms of tackling inequality, empowering migrants and refugees, alleviating poverty, encouraging job creation, supporting innovation, and fostering economic development. For example, immigrant entrepreneurship can contribute to SDGs: 1 – combating poverty, 5 - achieving gender equality, 8 – promoting decent work and economic growth, 9 – encouraging innovation, 10 – reducing inequality, 16 – fostering peaceful and inclusive societies; 17 – strengthening global partnership.
Against this background, this book is dedicated to the underexplored area of migrant / immigrant entrepreneurship and its relationship to labour market, digitalization, economic growth, and sustainable development goals.
