Introduction

This collective volume examines the changing role of sustainability and resilience policies in administration and education in order to highlight the urgent need for holistic and cross-sectoral approaches to contemporary environmental, social and economic challenges. At a time when governments and institutions worldwide are called upon to manage the climate crisis, the decline of natural resources and social inequalities, as well as many other challenges, the book brings together a wide range of scientific approaches and practical experiences, exploring how political and institutional frameworks can help find sustainable solutions. The structure of the volume is organized around two main axes: administration and education. In the first part, the authors explore the integration of sustainability principles in policy design, implementation and evaluation. Issues such as green governance, policy coherence and coordination, institutional accountability, and the role of local and central government in promoting sustainability strategies are examined. Case studies highlight both successful practices and ongoing challenges, offering useful conclusions for policymakers and practitioners. The second part highlights education as a key factor in promoting sustainable development. The individual chapters focus on curriculum reform, developing leadership for sustainability within educational organizations, teacher training, and integrating relevant skills and competencies across all subjects. At the same time, it examines how educational policies can enhance participation, environmental awareness, and long-term change in students’ attitudes and behaviors. A particular value of the volume is its interdisciplinary and international character. The contributions come from fields such as public administration, business administration, educational policy, environmental sciences and social sciences, while at the same time reflecting experiences from different geographical and institutional environments. This diversity strengthens the comparative approach and facilitates the emergence of practices and strategies that can be applied in different contexts. Addressed to researchers, policymakers, educators and postgraduate students, the book “Sustainability Policies in Administration and Education” combines theoretical documentation with a practical orientation. It aspires to bridge the gap between theory and application, constituting a comprehensive tool for those who seek to design, implement or evaluate sustainability policies and actions in administrative and educational environments. Overall, the volume highlights the importance of synergy between governance structures and education systems as a key prerequisite for building a more sustainable and resilient future.
