Introduction

Literary tourism, once centered on visiting the homes of famous authors, has evolved into a dynamic and experience-driven form of travel. Today, travelers are looking for deeper, more personal experiences - they want to step into stories, feel the atmosphere of a place, and connect with its cultural roots. This changing mindset has created exciting opportunities for destinations to present their literary heritage in more engaging and meaningful ways. At the same time, the digital world is reshaping how people travel. From exploring destinations on social media or through virtual tours and interactive storytelling, technology has become an essential part of the travel experience. For literary tourism, this means stories can now be shared and experienced in ways that go far beyond the printed page, reaching wider audiences and creating stronger emotional connections. This book, Destination Development for Literary Tourism in the Digital Age, brings literary places and modern technology like artificial intelligence and the metaverse together while still preserving their authenticity and cultural value. It also explores the importance of involving local communities, encouraging collaboration, and ensuring that tourism development remains sustainable in the long run. It shows how tradition and innovation can work hand in hand, helping destinations tell their stories in new ways while keeping their original essence alive. Overall, this book provides a thoughtful and engaging exploration of how literature, technology, and tourism are coming together in new and exciting ways.
