Carlos Nunes Silva, Geographer, PhD, holds a degree in Geography (University of Coimbra), a post-graduation in European Studies (University of Coimbra - Faculty of Law), a master’s degree in Human Geography: Regional and Local Planning (University of Lisbon), and a PhD in Geography: Regional and Local Planning (University of Lisbon). Faculty member at the University of Lisbon, Portugal (1988-2024) and University of Aveiro, Portugal (1984-1988). His research interests focus mainly on urban and metropolitan governance, the history and theory of urban planning, urban planning in Africa, urban e-planning, urban planning ethics, local government policies, local e-government, and research methods. He was Chair of the International Geographical Union Commission on Geography of Governance, in 2016-2020 and in 2020-2024, and is an honorary member of its Steering Committee in 2024-2028. He is a member of the AAG - American Association of Geographers, and a member of the IPHS - International Planning History Society.
