IGI Global takes part in the 2017 Peer Review Week

IGI Global Goes Transparent

By IGI Global Scientific Publishing on Oct 2, 2017
Peer Review Week

With the increase in technology, knowledge dissemination is expanding and research is evolving at a rapid pace. Although this expansion has allowed for many advancements in a variety of fields, it has allowed unvetted materials to enter the pool of academia and research. As an academic publisher, it is IGI Global’s responsibility and the responsibility of other publishers to take a stand against this false content and ensure that systems are put in place to stop predatory publishing and the contamination of knowledge.

As an advocate of this cause, IGI Global was proud to take part in the 2017 Peer Review Week on September 11th - 17th. The peer review process is integral for a publication’s credibility and reassures researchers and librarians that the content is accurate and sound. Peer Review Week expands upon the peer review process in order to educate others on the impact this practice has on eliminating falsified and unethical research. Publishers and organizations from around the globe come together to discuss best practices and industry standards.

Within the week's theme, “Transparency in Review,” IGI Global’s Executive Editor, Dr. Mehdi Khosrow-Pour, hosted an online seminar on Wednesday, September 13. The chat focused on the dangers of predatory publishing and what publishers, researchers, and librarians can do to protect themselves from falling prey to “pay to play” publishers. See the full video here.

The other activities that were planned for the week included:

Additionally, the IGI Global team joined in on the conversation on Facebook and Twitter throughout the week.

Thank you to all of our editors and reviewers that take the time, energy and devotion to ensure each IGI Global publication contains vetted cutting-edge research; because of you, we are able to print and disseminate the most innovative information in a variety of fields.
