Saudi Arabia is a desert country encompassing most of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. Known as the birthplace of Islam, it is home to the religion’s 2 most sacred mosques: Masjid al-Haram, in Mecca, the destination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, and Medina’s Masjid an-Nabawi, the burial site of the prophet Muhammad. Riyadh, the capital, is a skyscraper-filled metropolis. The current population of Saudi Arabia is approximately 28.83 million.

Saudi Arabia has established numerous innovations and discoveries in science and technology. Coffee was thought to be first produced in on the Arabian Peninsula. Also of note are the invention of instruments such as the lute, pottery, tin-glazing of ceramics, and more recent innovations such as a Super Absorbent Polymer (Sap) For Agriculture and a Stent In Prevention Of Choanal Atresia Restenosis.
